Besides the Retiro, Madrid has over 40 public parks and gardens. Other popular ones include the stately Campo del Moro (Field of the Moor) spanning the hill from the Río Manzanares to the Royal Palace; the Casa de Campo, once a royal hunting ground; and the Parque del Oeste, with its curious fourth- century BC Temple of Debod. The ancient Egyptian relic was given to Spain in gratitude for its contribution to the construction of the Aswan Dam. It was reassembled on a hill overlooking the river, with terrific panoramic views of the city.
